Tell the truth
November is fast approaching, and many in our country are nervous. I, for one, want a government and a country that don’t routinely lie to create a narrative that serves its interests. Some verifiable lies that have occurred over the last decade:
Fox News lied about the election machines trying to sway the outcome, and it was found that they intentionally lied. The resultant fine was $787.5 million.
Infowars: Creator Alex Jones called the victims of the Sandy Hook massacre actors and said it was all faked. He was ordered to pay $1.4 billion. That was the tip of the iceberg of his storytelling.
Brett Kavanaugh, Supreme Court justice: During his confirmation hearings, he swore under oath that he would not overturn sitting rulings regarding a person’s right to choose. He lied. (As an aside, not one Democrat or liberal is for abortion — not one. We would prefer birth control and 100% personal health choice.)
Rudy Giuliani, former New York City mayor, had to pay tens of millions of dollars when he tried to defraud two election workers. He lied and was found guilty. He was disbarred from practicing law again in some states.
Lastly, and most important, Donald Trump, the chief liar extraordinaire. On his first day in office, he said his inauguration crowd was bigger than Obama’s. Lie. Before that, he lied about Obama’s birthplace. Lie. He lied about the nuclear deal Obama had with Iran; any money exchanged was money confiscated by the Treasury Department and released with 100% access to Iranian nuclear sites. He told 30,573 lies in his first term, and he’s adding to them every day.
The oath of office to the Constitution is a simple one, violated every day by the GOP. My hope is that truth-tellers vote out the liars.
