The Town of Peterborough has issued updated mandatory outdoor watering restrictions for all public water system customers due to ongoing drought conditions across New Hampshire.
Under the rules, issued under Town Code Section 162:84-91, landscape and lawn irrigation is restricted to the hours between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. according to the following schedule:
- Even-numbered street addresses: Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday
- Odd-numbered street addresses: Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday
- Mondays: No outdoor watering permitted townwide to allow storage tanks and system capacity to recover.
The notice also bans filling swimming pools along with non-commercial car and boat washing. Water used for firefighting, health, sanitation, and medical purposes remains exempt from the restrictions.
Town officials stated that the mandatory measures aim to reduce peak demand and maintain supply for essential needs. While the town seeks compliance through public cooperation, violations may result in fines or suspension of water service under local ordinance.
