The Monadnock Center for History and Culture will host an evening with interdisciplinary artist Coleen Baik on Friday, May 1, at 7:30 p.m.

Based in New York City, Baik works across filmmaking, animation, visual arts and creative writing. Alongside her artistic career, she has spent more than two decades in high-level computer technology roles focused on motion graphics and system design.

Baik’s films, each under 10 minutes in length, explore themes of longing, memory and interiority, using a range of evolving animation styles. During the event, she will screen completed works, share experimental pieces and discuss the creative instincts and decisions that shape her process.

Currently in residence at MacDowell for her first fellowship, Baik is developing an abstract narrative short film about the resilience of children. Titled “Vespertine,” the project is being created entirely with graphite on index cards, marking a departure from her typical digital animation tools.

Baik also publishes a biweekly online journal documenting her creative work.

The event is free and open to the public, but advance registration is required.
