Hancock Town Library, 25 Main St., will display an exhibit of paintings in various mediums by Laurence Danel-Moore Feb. 18 through March 21. There will be an opening reception in the library’s Daniels Room on Saturday, Feb. 18, from 2 to 4 p.m.
Danel-Moore’s exhibit is titled “A Year to Remember: Shadows and Light,” which reflects how emotions can take over on the canvas. She realized she was portraying pain, suffering and loneliness, but also hope for a better future. Many of the paintings were done in 2022 as the war in Ukraine was raging and causing so much destruction — many lost lives, many homes and communities destroyed or damaged forever.
All of the proceeds from the exhibit will go to support Ukraine through a private organization
Born in Lyon, France, Danel-Moore moved to the United States in 1987, and began painting about the same time. She recently moved with her family from Woods Hole, Mass., to Hancock. A professional career as a physician, researcher, acupuncturist and hypnotherapist allowed her to travel the world, which she credits with widening her spectrum of life.
“I’ve been able to channel these experiences into my paintings, all the while delivering the emotions that each moment or place has evoked in me,” she stated.
Danel-Moore has explored oil, pastel, watercolor and the application of gold and silver leaves to depict nature landscapes and provincial villages. Experimenting as well with paint surfaces, she has worked on canvas, paper and wood. She describes her creative style as minimalistic, and her artistic process as always evolving. A recent project was a cookbook she illustrated with watercolor scenes from the Provence region of France.
A booklet of the paintings from this exhibit will be available. Information and paintings are available at laurencedanelmoore-artist.com.
The exhibit can be viewed in the Daniels Room of the Hancock Library during regular library hours of Monday and Wednesday 2 to 6 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Call the library at 603-525-4411 before visiting to ensure no special events are scheduled at that time. The library will follow COVID guidelines and restrictions that are current at the time of exhibits.
