The Jaffrey Civic Center will present โ€œSpecimens,โ€ an exhibition of new work by artist and furniture maker Peter Sandback, from April 24 through June 6 in the Auditorium Gallery.

An opening reception is set for Friday, April 24, from 5-7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, with refreshments and an opportunity to meet the artist.

Based in southern New Hampshire, Sandback works across photography and sculpture. The exhibition examines natural history displays and the concept of the specimen.

โ€œMy recent work revolves around the nature of specimens,โ€ Sandback notes. โ€œThe exhibits are often beautiful-the result of close collaboration between scientists and artists and works of art in their own right. At the same time, they carry an undercurrent of violence.โ€

Gallery hours are Wednesday through Friday, noon to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free.
