Icy roads on State Route 124 triggered a chain of crashes near 315 Mountain Road in Jaffrey just before 7 a.m. Tuesday.

The Jaffrey fire department, Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance and the Jaffrey Police Department all responded. The Jaffrey Police Department also requested NH DOT to the scene due to deteriorating road conditions.

“At that elevation, everything just iced right over,” said Jaffrey Police Chief Christopher LaBrecque.

The first crash involved a single vehicle that rolled over and left the roadway. A second vehicle approaching the scene slid off the road and struck a utility pole; Eversource was contacted to replace it. By the time officers arrived, more than six vehicles were involved, and two additional vehicles collided while officers were on scene.

Because of the volume of calls and the early hour, both Marlborough and Peterborough fire departments were requested to assist. Peterborough was redirected to cover ambulance staging at the old Jaffrey fire station on Route 124. The Troy Police Department and Gauthier Auto Services also responded.

No serious injuries were reported. One driver was transported to Cheshire Medical Center for evaluation.
