A New Ipswich man died of a suspected drug overdose in the early hours of Wednesday morning in the lobby of the Dover Police Department, according to police and the medical examiner.

In a press release issued Wednesday, Dover Police Chief David A. Teriemezian said an investigation was ongoing into the death of Andrew Larose, 37, of New Ipswich.

According to the release, police responded to a single-car crash involving Larose at 11:50 p.m. on Locust Street in Dover. Lacose, who was the driver and sole occupant of the car, was not injured. His vehicle was towed and police gave Lacose a ride to the Dover Police Department to arrange a ride home. He was not arrested or in police custody.

Early Wednesday, a police department employee discovered Larose unresponsive in the department’s lobby. Officers responded and determined Larose was dead.

The department’s Special Investigations Unit and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are investigating the circumstances surrounding Larose’s death.

“While the investigation is ongoing, it appears likely that Larose ingested illegal narcotics in the public bathroom of the police station, leading to an accidental overdose,” according to the press release.

An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday to determine the cause and manner of death.
