Peterborough’s Boy Scout Troop 8 hosted its annual holiday tree bonfire on Saturday after collecting discarded trees from area towns after the holidays. According to troop leader Sue Darroch Whitaker, the troop collects trees at no charge, but accepts donations, with most funds raised going toward sending members of Troop 8 to the high adventure camp in the Florida Keys in July.

Peterborough Fire Chief Ed Walker said snowy conditions Saturday night made for safe conditions for the bonfire. Volunteers from the PFD Explorers Program monitored the fire for the Scouts.

“We always send an engine down to the bonfire if we can, but this year it was mostly just to hang out with the kids,” Walker said. “It was even snowing during the fire.”
