Firefighters responding to a medical emergency on Monday, Dec. 29, came upon a car that had slid over an embankment and into a tree on Lower Jaffrey Road in Dublin, injuring two of the four people inside. As responders were pulling up, a second vehicle drove by and also slid off the road into a ditch.

โ€œWe were responding to an initial medical emergency in the area at 11:23 a.m. Then we were called for an additional one at 11:54 a.m.,” said Second Deputy Joe Sangermano of the Dublin Fire Department. “On our way to the second emergency, we just happened upon a wrecked vehicle.”

The crash was discovered just before noon, about a half-mile from Route 101.

Firefighters found a Ford station wagon with two men and two women inside, all believed to be in their twenties. Two people were taken to Monadnock Community Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The other two were picked up by someone who arrived at the scene while rescuers were still assessing the damage.ย

The vehicle sustained damage to the front-passenger side, where it had hit the tree.

โ€œWhile we were pulling up, I was parking my vehicle when a second vehicle, a Volkswagen SUV, blew by the other rescue vehicles. It ended up sliding off the road and driving into a ditch,โ€ Sangermano said.

The driver, in his late 30s, was not injured, but the vehicle sustained some front-end damage after sliding into a ditch.

The crash was one of seven emergencies the department responded to in the icy conditions on Dec. 29.
