Small town magic

This is why I am blessed to live in a small New England town – especially the Monadnock region.
Upon retiring years ago, I devoted more time to refinishing furniture. Once my home, my two daughters and various friends’ houses were full, I contacted Shelter from the Storm in Jaffrey. We have supported them for years. They provide apartments that house those in need. My Shelter refinished furniture is stored (many thanks to the Saint Patrick’s Church in Jaffrey) in a section of their basement, waiting for use.
We have managed to fill the basement. I contacted Jen Shay at Consignment Cabin in Marlborough to see if they might be interested in selling Shelter furniture. It has been a year, and through the Consignment Cabin sales, we have raised much-needed funds for the Shelter.
This past Columbus Day weekend, we organized an end-of-year discount furniture sale at the Consignment Cabin to benefit the Shelter. Organized last minute – my fault – volunteers from the Shelter showed up to load the furniture and deliver it to Marlborough.
The sale was a huge success, giving us the chance to let folks know who we are while raising money for the Shelter.
Small Town Magic: The Peterborough Kiwanis provides the unfinished furniture at discounted prices – I refinish it – the local Catholic Church helps store it – the Consignment Cabin sells it – the Shelter gets some financial support.
I cannot thank the Peterborough Kiwanis, volunteers from the Shelter from the Storm, Saint Patrick’s Church, the Consignment Cabin and my buddy Ray enough for their caring and commitment to our small town.
This is why I am blessed to live in Jaffrey.
