Why I’m writing in Amanda Allen
I supported Jonah Wheeler in 2022. This year I’m writing in Amanda Allen.
I probably won’t agree with any representative on everything. Peterborough is a solidly Democratic town, and on issues it cares about, Rep. Wheeler too often votes the other way. I feel disappointed and betrayed.
Vaccines: In 2025 he was the only Democrat to back HB 357, which would have ended childhood chickenpox, hepatitis B and Hib vaccine requirements and let legislators, not health officials, decide future ones.
Gun safety: In 2025 he helped kill a three-day waiting period for gun purchases (HB 56), and this year voted against a red-flag law (HB 1642) letting courts temporarily disarm people at immediate risk of harm. To him, these initiatives were “just throwing spaghetti at a wall.” Really?
Transgender rights: This May he was the only House Democrat to vote for SB 552, and in August the only one to vote to override Gov. Ayotte’s veto of HB 1442. When even a Republican governor vetoes a bill he backed, every voter should pause.
Amanda Allen brings 13 years of nonprofit health care leadership, now at the Foundation for Healthy Communities. She founded and chairs Peterborough’s Inclusive Community Committee, serves on the Monadnock Area Transitional Shelter board and the Affordable Housing Committee, and is raising a young family here. She wants to address housing costs, raise the minimum wage, expand family and medical leave, and redirect Education Freedom Account money to public schools. Campaigning less than two weeks, she came within 19 votes in the primary.
You can vote for two State Representatives. Make one Amanda Allen: print her full name on the write-in line and fill in the oval. Partial names didn’t count in the primary.
