The Greenfield Historical Society and the Stephenson Memorial Library will co-host a New Hampshire Humanities program titled “The History of Agriculture as Told by Barns” on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 10 a.m. The event will take place at the GHS building, 828 Forest Road, Greenfield.
Speaker John Porter will discuss the evolution of barns in New Hampshire and how agricultural structures adapted to meet the needs of changing societies. The event honors former Greenfield resident and GHS member Carl Inglestrom for his dedication to the community and agricultural career. After the presentation, the society will dedicate its new carriage shed in Inglestrom’s honor.
The historical society and library will also co-sponsor a presentation on the history of the Hopkins Grain Mill on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. at the Stephenson Memorial Library. Speaker Peter Hopkins will trace the mill’s founding in 1893, its expansion on Slip Road, and its destruction by fire in 1976.
