Oscar Taylor earns runner-up medalist honors in ConVal golf home match
Oscar Taylor carded a season-best 38 to earn runner-up medalist honors and lead the ConVal varsity coed golf team to a season-low team total of 250 in a four-school home match Sept. 24 at Crotched Mountain Golf Club.
ConVal placed fourth overall, while St. Thomas Aquinas High School captured first with a 209. Lebanon High School took second with a 217, followed closely by John Stark High School (219). Ryan Allard of St. Thomas Aquinas earned overall medalist honors with a 37, finishing one stroke ahead of Taylor.
Taylor’s 38 headlined a strong showing on the Cougars’ home course. Senior Anthony Gutwein added a season-low 45, and Oliver Vivilecchia posted a 49. Ben Ferrisi (58) and Carson Niemela (60) rounded out ConVal’s five-player scoring lineup. Milo Ferrisi (66), Carter Craig (70), and Jonathon “JT” Burke (70) also competed for the Cougars.
In the Sept. 22 home match, the Cougars posted a five-score total of 266 in a four-school match, finishing fourth overall in a competitive afternoon highlighted by a razor-thin finish at the top of the leaderboard.
Plymouth Regional High School captured first place overall with a team total of 215, edging Hollis-Brookline High School (217) by just two strokes. Kennett High School placed third with a 242, while Plymouth’s Ross Smith earned medalist honors with a 1-over-par round of 37.
Oscar Taylor paced the Cougars, carding a team-best 43. Anthony Vivilecchia matched teammate Oliver Vivilecchia with a round of 50. Carson Niemela added a 60, and Carter Craig a 63. Ben Ferrisi (66), Milo Ferrisi (67), and Jonathon “JT” Burke (69) also competed for ConVal.
ConVal girls’ soccer drops matches to Lebanon, Hollis-Brookline
The ConVal girls varsity soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Lebanon during homecoming weekend. The match remained scoreless through most of the contest, with ConVal goalkeeper Amelie Davis delivering key saves to keep Lebanon off the board. Lebanon broke the tie in the 78th minute following a midfield turnover and a quick break down the right flank. Although ConVal defender Alex Dalton intercepted the initial cross, Lebanon regained control and scored the game-winning goal.
Earlier in the week, the Cougars fell in a road contest to Hollis-Brookline High School. The host Cavaliers set the tempo early, opening the scoring in the 10th minute before adding goals in the 20th, 35th, and 39th minutes to build a 4-0 lead by halftime. ConVal kept fighting in the second half to counter Hollis-Brookline’s ball movement, but the Cavaliers broke through twice more with goals in the 67th and 73rd minutes to secure the victory.
ConVal Jr. Cougars football earns first victory since 2024
The ConVal Jr. Cougars 7th- and 8th-grade football team earned its first victory since the 2024 season with a 36-0 shutout against the Newport Tigers at home on Saturday, Sept. 26.
Xander Synder led the offense with four touchdowns, while Kiernan Michaud scored one touchdown. Brony Budzik (#68) and Everett Longley (#99) each recorded a safety, contributing to the shutout.
The Jr. Cougars are led by head coach Tyler McClure, assistant coach Gregory Ellis, and defensive coordinator Josh Prather.
