Peterborough Folk Music will present singer-songwriter Peter Mulvey in a house concert on Sunday, Oct. 4, at a private residence in Harrisville. The address will be provided in the ticket confirmation email.
The event includes a potluck at 5:45 p.m., followed by the concert at 6:30 p.m. Doors open 15 minutes prior to each start time.

Biographer reveals life of Revolutionary War officer John Manley
Peterborough resident Ken Sheldon will release a new biography, “Captain John Manley: Patriot, Privateer, and America’s Forgotten First Hero,” on Oct. 13.
Published by Harmon House to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. Navy, the book examines the life of the Revolutionary War naval officer who was celebrated by George Washington and John Adams but remains largely forgotten today. Sheldon based the biography on research from naval archives, contemporary newspapers, and newly discovered documents.
The book will be available in hardcover for $29.95, paperback for $18.95, and ebook for $9.99 at bookstores, online retailers, and at kensheldon.com.
Peter Pap presents my life in rugs at Stories to Share season opener
The Jaffrey Civic Center will host the opening talk of the sixth season of “Stories to Share” on Friday, Oct. 2, at 5 p.m.
Peter Pap, owner of Peter Pap Rugs and guest appraiser on PBS’s “Antiques Roadshow,” will present “My Life in Rugs: An Extraordinary Adventure.” Pap, an expert in antique rugs and tribal weavings with galleries in San Francisco and Dublin, will share insights from his 50-year career.

Free bluegrass and Americana concert coming to Wilton Collaborative Space
The Wilton Folk Café will present Coastwise Radio on Friday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m. at the Wilton Collaborative Space, located in the Second Congregational Church Hall at 21 Gregg St. in Wilton.
The Somerville, Massachusetts-based acoustic band performs American roots music, including bluegrass, country, and contemporary Americana. Doors open at 7 p.m., and refreshments will be served by the Friends of the Wilton Public Library.

Free historic art exhibition coming to Harrisville Village Community Center
Historic Harrisville will present “A Sense of Place,” an exhibition of paintings by William Preston Phelps, from Oct. 3 through Oct. 12 at the Village Community Center, 23 Church St. in Harrisville.
An opening reception will take place Friday, Oct. 2, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., featuring remarks by Alan Rumrill, a Phelps scholar and former director of the Historical Society of Cheshire County. The exhibition features 30 paintings on loan from local collectors depicting Chesham and the Monadnock region.
The exhibition is open daily from noon to 6 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
Poetry reading featuring Peter Eisenstadter coming to Keene’s Edge Theater
The Edge Ensemble Theatre Company will present “A Time for Poetry, with Peter Eisenstadter” on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m. at The Edge Theater, 310 Marlboro St., Suite 112 in Keene.
Directed by Catherine Behrens, the Edge Café poetry reading features actor and former English teacher Peter Eisenstadter reading a selection of poems.
General admission is $12, and tickets for students and seniors are $10. Tickets must be purchased at the door with cash or check only. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis, and reservations will not be accepted.
New England Animation Festival opens film submissions for third year
Film submissions are open for the third annual New England Animation Festival, set for Nov. 20–21 at The Park Theatre, 19 Main St., Jaffrey. Owned and produced by the theatre, the festival invites entries in two categories: Best American Animated Short Film and Best Global Animated Short Film, for works 10 minutes or less. Animated films created using artificial intelligence are ineligible. All finalists will also compete for the Audience Favorite Animated Short Film Award.
“The New England Animation Festival celebrates the extraordinary imagination, artistry and craftsmanship of animators from the United States and around the world,” said Steve Jackson, CEO and Managing Director of The Park Theatre and director of the festival.
Entry fees are $25 through Oct. 3, $30 through Oct. 23, and $50 through Nov. 11, with student discounts available. Finalists will be notified Nov. 14, and award winners will be notified Nov. 16. Peterborough Town Library to host craft and art supplies swap
The Peterborough Town Library will host a Craft and Art Supplies Swap on Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the outdoor terrace at 2 Concord St., Peterborough. In case of rain, the event will move indoors.
Attendees may exchange or pick up gently used art supplies such as paints, paper, yarn, and beads. Donated items are not required to participate.
Donations may be dropped off at the library’s Help Desk on Oct. 1 from 3 to 7 p.m. or Oct. 2 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. All items must be clean, odor-free, in good condition, and meet event guidelines. Unfinished projects, sewing machines, house paint, dirty or broken items, and hazardous materials will not be accepted.

Restored film “The Europeans” will receive special screening at Park Theatre
The Park Theatre will host a special screening of the newly restored film “The Europeans” on Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. at 19 Main St., Jaffrey. Filmed extensively in New Ipswich and Jaffrey in 1978, the Merchant-Ivory production stars Lee Remick, Robin Ellis, Tim Woodward, Lisa Eichhorn, and Wesley Addy.
The theatre is seeking local actors, extras, crew members, and relatives who participated in the filming to attend the screening and share memories, photographs, or keepsakes. A talkback Q&A and trivia will follow the film.
“The Europeans” received an Academy Award nomination for costume design and features interior and exterior scenes shot at Barrett House in New Ipswich.

Monadnock International Film Festival to feature ‘Mission of Burma Story’
The 14th annual Monadnock International Film Festival returns Oct. 2-4 to downtown Keene, featuring more than 100 features and shorts. Screenings and events will take place at the Showroom, Keene Public Library, Birdies, Brewbakers/Nova Arts, and the Cheshire County Historical Society. A 10-day virtual program runs Oct. 6-15.
Highlights include opening night on Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. at the Showroom with a screening of “Not a Photograph: The Mission of Burma Story,” followed by an 8 p.m. concert at Nova Arts/Brewbakers. On Oct. 3, the documentary “Fork in the Road” will receive the Jonathan Daniels Award.

The Barbara C. Harris Center will host Otter Fest on Oct. 17 in Greenfield. The sustainably produced festival features live music across three stages.

Local artists to showcase mixed-media works in Peterborough exhibit
The Peterborough Town Library will host an exhibit titled “Recycled Dreams” in its Community Art Gallery from Oct. 2 through Nov. 21 at 2 Concord St., Peterborough. The exhibition features mixed-media, photography, and graphic design works by local artists Linda Greenwood and Alison Scott.
An opening reception will take place Friday, Oct. 2, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
The artwork explores how discarded objects, landscapes, and everyday images can be transformed into art. Greenwood incorporates found items such as rusty metals and barn boards from the local landfill, while Scott creates abstract works using Photoshop and graphic design techniques.

Yaeko Miranda Quartet to perform rock hits at the Park Theatre
The Yaeko Miranda Quartet will perform a one-night concert featuring classic rock and popular music on Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. at The Park Theatre, 19 Main St., Jaffrey.
Led by violinist Yaeko Miranda Elmaleh, the string quartet uses violins, viola, and cello to perform rock and popular songs from across the decades.
“People may think they know what to expect when four classically trained string musicians walk onto the stage,” said Steve Jackson, CEO and Managing Director of The Park Theatre.
“But this quartet quickly turns those expectations upside down. They bring all the precision and beauty of chamber music to songs that rock-and-roll audiences know and love.”
