Gary’s Harvest Restaurant in Wilton will be closed for the foreseeable future after a grease fire on Monday. No injuries were reported.
Wilton Fire responded at approximately 3:40 p.m. after receiving a call about smoke coming from the building. Fire Chief Norm Skantze said the stove fire was extinguished soon after the fire department’s arrival.
The stove was left on, Skantze said, causing a fire that the hood vent failed to extinguish.
Skantze said firefighters found smoke damage at one neighboring business, Joan P. Lemire Real Estate, but no damage at The Kettle.
Wilton Fire found the cause to be accidental but is continuing to investigate the fire-extinguishing system in the hood vent above the stove.
The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services visited the restaurant today to evaluate the damage and next steps, according to Skantze. All of the food had to be thrown away due to smoke contamination.
