The ConVal Regional High School varsity coed golf team kicked off its inaugural season in Division I with a busy three-match slate spanning late August and early September.
Led by head coach Tom Kirlin, the Cougars feature a young 13-player roster composed of two seniors, two juniors, six sophomores, and three freshmen.
ConVal opened its season Aug. 27 in a four-school match hosted by Alvirne High School at Beaver Meadow Golf Course in Concord. The Cougars posted a five-score total of 254 to finish third overall, edging Coe-Brown Northwood Academy (255) by a single stroke. Host Alvirne took second with a 215, while Bow High School earned top honors with a team score of 201. Oscar Taylor led ConVal on the afternoon, carding a team-low score of 42. Parker Begley added a 46, while senior Anthony Gutwein shot a 50 in his season debut. Carson Niemela (51) and Milo Ferrisi (65) rounded out the scoring line for the Cougars.
Following a rainout of their scheduled home opener, the Cougars traveled to Atkinson Resort & Country Club on Sept. 2 for a quad-match hosted by Timberlane Regional. ConVal placed fourth with a combined team score of 278. Timberlane captured first place with a 206, followed by Kingswood Regional (224) and Pembroke Academy (249). Taylor again paced the Cougars with a team-best 48, supported by Oliver Vivillechia (53), Begley (58), Niemela (59), and Ben Ferrisi (60).
The team wrapped up its back-to-back road stretch Sept. 3 at North Conway Country Club against host Kennett High School, Plymouth Regional, and Merrimack Valley. ConVal posted a team score of 265 to place fourth. Plymouth took first overall with a 205, followed by Kennett (220) and Merrimack Valley (226). Taylor matched his season low with a team-leading 42, while Gutwein turned in a strong 49. Vivillechia contributed a 50, followed by Ben Ferrisi (62) and Milo Ferrisi (64).
