Charlotte Matherly has been named part-time editor of the Ledger-Transcript while continuing her reporting coverage of the statehouse in Concord.
Matherly has worked with the Ledger-Transcript and Concord Monitor for over two years through Report for America, a national program that places journalists in local newsrooms. In addition to covering state legislation, Matherly has reported on local stories across the Monadnock region.
“The Monadnock region is so beautiful, and the people here are such a close-knit community. I’m really excited to work with people here more and learn more about the community,” Matherly said.
Prior to joining the Ledger-Transcript and Monitor, Matherly lived in North Carolina and attended James Madison University in Virginia, where she served as editor-in-chief of the student newspaper, The Breeze.
She said she was eager to get back into editing again.
“I enjoy thinking about how we shape stories and what angles and what questions we ask,” Matherly said.
She also looks forward to spending more time in the Monadnock region.
“I’m excited to delve into the local issues that matter to people and uplift voices in our community and provide a public forum,” she said.
In her new role, Matherly plans to hold monthly office hours to meet with residents from the 16 towns in the Ledger-Transcript’s coverage area.
In her free time, Matherly enjoys exploring the outdoors, running, and cooking, and is always looking for new hiking trails and spots to venture. She can be reached by email at cmatherly@cmonitor.com.
