The Peterborough Lions Club presented a $500 check to the Escape Hatch Foundation in August to support its ongoing local literacy initiatives.
Based in Jaffrey and developed from Escape Hatch Books, the nonprofit organization promotes reading comprehension and visual literacy by expanding community access to comics and graphic literature. The foundation places graphic novels into classrooms, maintains a free comic lending library, and sets up comic displays in non-traditional spaces to engage readers of all ages and inspire reluctant readers.
To expand local outreach, a newly installed comic book display is now available at Peterborough Camera Copies & More, owned by Lions Club members Gary Fischer and Deidre McGrath-Fischer.
The Peterborough Lions Club raises funds for vision and hearing programs, community health initiatives, and youth literacy efforts. For information about the club or membership opportunities, contact Linda Guyette at 603-547-7737.
