A Jaffrey man faces charges of criminal operating under the influence and criminal speed after allegedly driving over 100 mph on Interstate 295, according to the Maine State Police.
Alexandre Forsythe, 22, was arrested following a traffic stop on Saturday, Aug. 15.
Police said the Bangor Regional Communications Center received 14 emergency calls starting around 3:35 p.m. reporting a vehicle traveling at high speeds and driving erratically northbound on I-295 near Bowdoinham.
Troopers used mile markers provided by callers to track the vehicle into Waterville, where they observed the erratic driving and pulled the vehicle over. Forsythe was arrested following a roadside investigation.
In Maine, a first OUI offense carries a minimum $500 fine and a 150-day driver’s license suspension. Criminal speeding — exceeding the posted speed limit by 30 mph or more — is a Class E misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
