Monadnock Peer Support has received a $10,000 Responsive Grant from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation to fund accessibility renovations for its residential bathroom.
The grant will cover the installation of a roll-in shower, grab bars, and an accessible toilet support bar. The upgrades aim to eliminate physical barriers for individuals participating in the organization’s crisis respite and Step-Up, Step-Down residential programs.
The project follows previous building improvements that included an elevator and automatic doors.
“Recovery looks different for every person, and for some, something as simple as being able to shower safely and independently can make a tremendous difference,” said Stacy Wilbur, senior program director at Monadnock Peer Support. “This renovation is about more than meeting ADA standards, it’s about creating a space where every resident feels respected, valued, and empowered.”
Executive Director Melissa Callender emphasized the connection between physical facilities and mental health care.
“Physical accessibility is an essential part of mental health recovery,” Callender said. “By removing barriers, we ensure that every individual who comes through our doors has the opportunity to participate fully in our programs.”
Monadnock Peer Support has provided free, non-clinical, peer-led mental health services in the Monadnock region for more than 30 years. Its offerings include support groups, life-skills training, transportation, wellness activities, and residential services.
