Multidisciplinary artist Karina Aguilera Skvirsky will discuss two decades of her visual work during a MacDowell Downtown presentation on Friday, Aug. 7, at the Monadnock Center for History & Culture.
The event, titled “Mapping Memory, Heritage, and Home,” begins at 7:30 p.m. in Bass Hall.
Skvirsky, who holds a Master of Fine Arts in photography, will examine three multi-disciplinary projects that explore her multi-racial heritage, personal narrative, and the legacies of colonialism. Her work draws heavily on a two-year childhood stay in Ecuador, including her 2009 installation “My Pictures from Ecuador” and a 2016 hybrid performance tracing her great-grandmother’s migration to Guayaquil during the construction of the Trans-Andean railway.
Skvirsky has exhibited internationally in Mexico, Chile, Ecuador, Italy, and New York, and is currently in Peterborough preparing for an upcoming solo exhibition at El Museo Nacional de Guayaquil in Ecuador.
