Mascenic alums and now NCA staffers Ella Keating and Lyla Stauffeneker with Mascenic coach Sandy Seppala.
The Mascenic Regional High School and Boynton Middle School cheer teams traveled to Husson University in Bangor, Maine, earlier this month to participate in the National Cheerleaders Association camp.
The camp was held July 11 to 15 and offered NCA curriculum and time with NCA instructors.
The teams received several honors at the camp, as did individual athletes. The Mascenic Vikings received first place in the Varsity Division for their mini-jam routine, and three athletes — Kiahna Farrey, Ellie Hinkel and Elliana Nichols — received invitations to the All-American Team. Farrey and Lea MacInnis were also invited to apply as NCA staff.
The Vikings, coached by Sandy Seppala and chaperoned by Molly Viglione, also were recognized with two Blue Superior ratings for strong technique; two “Pin It Forward” awards, a peer-and-staff recognition given to celebrate leadership, kindness and spirit; a finalist nod in the “Top Gun” skills competition; and an award for technical excellence in stunts.
The Boynton team, coached by Heather Schoff and Molly Seeley and chaperoned by Jessi Ryan, received third place in the Middle School/Youth Division mini-jam routine and a technical award for tumbling. Four members — Teja Gill, Raya Muhonen, Shania Wooster and Delilah Kopsala-Paquet — were nominated for All-American.
