Houston, TX – Angela (Nelson) Nix, loving mother, sister, daughter and friend, passed away on the 2nd of July, 2026 due to health complications at the age of 64. Angela was born in Onida, South Dakota to Harriet and Dean Nelson.
Her pride and greatest accomplishment were her children, Ryan Nix and Ashley Nix. They are both kind, loving, generous, funny, incredible children who made their mom happy every day.
Angela was born and raised in Onida, South Dakota until the age of 16, and was the 6th child out of seven siblings. She was always proud of her heritage, and loved to tell people the town she grew up in only had 701 residents. When she applied for her first “real” job, her only previous experience was driving a combine during harvest season. The manager of Chase Bank thought that was so unusual he hired her on the spot.
Angela started her career in the hospitality business and worked for the Marriott Corporation for five years. She then moved to Houston from Gaithersburg, Maryland to work for Doubletree Hotels, which she did for five years. From there Angela went to work for River Oaks Country Club, where she was Director of Catering and Special Events for 13 years.
Angela started her own business as a Wedding & Special Event Consultant in 2000, having worked on over 1,000 events in her career. She loved planning weddings and parties, and made life long friends from those special occasions. Angela retired in 2020.
Angela’s sense of humor, deep love for her children and friends, and support of neglected animals will be forever missed.
There are far too many family members, neighbors and friends to list, but Angela was best friends with her sister Carol Nelson of Peterborough, New Hampshire, and dear friend Charity Lykins Gier of Rockledge, Florida.
Angela is predeceased by her parents and three brothers.
A celebration of Angela’s life will take place in Houston in October.
