Tree limbs fell on power lines on Route 119 and North Street on Sunday, causing arcing and sparks, but did not ignite a full brush fire, according to Rindge Fire Chief and Director of Public Safety Bob Faas.
Faas said the Fire Department was notified by several residents who passed the power line on Route 119 near North Street about a limb that had brought down wires. Crews arrived at the scene around 4:30 p.m.
Faas said the live wires caused a small amount of burning in the area where the wire came down, but the growth under the poles was fresh and green, and the fire did not spread significantly.
Eversource was able to isolate power to the line remotely and ground the system.
Faas said that while there were no active flames at that point, the Fire Department doused the smoldering area.
Eversource repaired the lines, and the Fire Department cleared the scene within about two-and-a-half hours.
