The Dublin Community Center will host a weekend of jazz performances and educational workshops from July 17 to July 19.

The event kicks off Friday, July 17, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a free public performance and discussion titled “Using The Jazz Language”. Led by saxophonist Paul Klemperer and a group of core musicians, the interactive presentation will explore jazz improvisation as a structured form of communication. Attendees are invited to listen or bring instruments to play along.

On Saturday and Sunday, July 18 and 19, Klemperer and multi-instrumentalist Dan Fox, a faculty member at the Berklee College of Music, will lead a two-day jazz workshop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.. The morning ensemble sessions will focus on improvisation, expanding repertoire, and developing stagecraft.

Workshop participants and instructors will also perform during the center’s traditional Coffee House & Open Mic on Saturday, July 18, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m..

The Friday presentation and Saturday open mic are free and open to the public. Advanced registration is required for the daytime workshops, which have limited space. Information on workshop costs and registration can be requested by emailing info@dublincommunitycenter.org.
