Treasure Trove of Mason Trails

The Ledger-Transcript article about the Happy Trails conservation land was a welcome window into the rich trail system in Mason. In addition to the newest trail, Mason has almost 25 miles of trails — 17.5 miles of hiking trails and 6.7 miles of “rail trail” — that are broken into nine trail systems. If you live in Mason, there may be a trail right in your neighborhood. Mason Trail Volunteers go on the trails once/week during the spring, summer, and fall to keep the trails cleared, i.e., free of deadfalls and tripping hazards, and wide enough for a comfortable hike or possibly an equestrian outing. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many volunteers who come out nearly every week to maintain the trails and thank the many high school kids who have come out on occasion over the past 10 years to earn “work credits” while helping to maintain the trails and learn about the trail systems. To learn more about Mason’s treasure trove of trails, including trail descriptions, photos, and maps, see masonnhtrails.org. Happy local hiking!
