Savings Bank of Walpole staff and local residents gathered at the bank’s downtown branch at 11 Westminster St. on June 2 to seal a time capsule marking the institution’s 150th anniversary.
The custom, piggy bank-shaped capsule contains a variety of items reflecting the bank and the local community. Among the contents are photos, notes from customers and employees, newspaper clippings, marketing materials, a penny minted before production stopped in 2025, and copies of the bank’s anniversary newsletter, The Depositor.
The capsule also holds a list of 150 “Good Deeds” completed by the bank during its yearlong anniversary celebration.
Local artists created two time capsules for the 150th anniversary. While one remained on display at various bank locations, the other traveled to different branches and community events throughout 2025.
The sealed capsule will remain closed for the next half-century. It is scheduled to be opened in 2075 during the bank’s bicentennial celebration.
