Two Monadnock Region organizations have been awarded a combined $19,000 in AARP Community Challenge grants to fund quick-action projects that improve safety and accessibility for older adults and individuals with mobility challenges.
The local funding is part of an $8.3 million nationwide commitment by AARP, marking the 10th anniversary of its grant program.
The local recipients are:
- Crotched Mountain Foundation: Received $15,000 to repair and maintain accessible mountain trails. The funds will improve trail surfaces, upgrade drainage, and clear paths to allow individuals using mobility aids to safely enjoy year-round outdoor recreation.
- The Park Theatre: Received $4,000 to install a wall-mounted handrail along the interior passage connecting the theater lobby and the main auditorium in Jaffrey. The new handrail will assist patrons and volunteers who experience balance, mobility, or vision challenges.
