Author and science educator Susie Spikol introduced children to mounted insects and taught them the names of different bug body parts during the Mason Library’s Summer Reading Program on Tuesday.

“It’s a great way to make everyday animals exciting and accessible to kids,” said Spikol.

Children got the opportunity to examine mounted and preserved bugs up close and draw their own bugs.

The next Mason Library Summer Reading Program is on July 7, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., and will feature magician Jason Purdy in an interactive magic show. On July 14, the library will host a representative of the Mariposa Museum in Peterborough to talk about plants. On July 21, Amy Conley will hold a music program.

Children of all ages are welcome to Summer Reading program events. Events are free and will be held at either the Mason Public Library or the Mason Elementary School multi-purpose room.
