The ConVal softball team advanced to the NHIAA Division II semifinals with a 5-4 victory over Campbell on Saturday, while the ConVal and Conant baseball teams saw their seasons come to an end in quarterfinal action.

Softball

Campbell struck first in the softball quarterfinal, taking a 2-0 lead after the opening inning. ConVal answered with three runs in the third inning to move in front and added two more runs in the fifth to build a 5-2 advantage.

Campbell rallied with two runs in the sixth and threatened again in the seventh, but the Cougars held on defensively. Bryanna Mattson made a key catch at second base to keep the tying run at first base, and Sydney Borges recorded the final out on a strikeout.

The strikeout was a milestone for Borges, marking the 600th of her career.

ConVal finished with eight hits. Chloe Hamlin hit an inside-the-park home run, Borges doubled twice, and Kinley Moore had a double and a single. Mattson added two singles and Opale Barrick contributed a hit.

Borges pitched all seven innings, striking out 11 batters while earning the win.

The Cougars advance to face Plymouth in the Division II semifinals Tuesday at Plymouth State University.

Baseball

In baseball, Hanover used an 11-hit attack to defeat ConVal 6-0 in a Division II quarterfinal.

Jack Lobb led Hanover with three hits, while Wyatt Daigle drove in four runs on two hits. Benny Campfield added two hits, and Jorgen Drent, Allie Muirhead, Alex Boone and Hayden Avard each recorded a hit.

Muirhead earned the win on the mound, striking out 12 and allowing just two hits over six innings. Lobb pitched a scoreless seventh inning to seal the victory.

ConVal was limited to two hits as its season came to a close.

Also in Division III baseball, Conant’s postseason run ended with a 4-3 loss to top-seeded Monadnock in a quarterfinal thriller.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the seventh, when Monadnock’s Wes McWhirk delivered a walk-off RBI single to send the Huskies to the semifinals.

Conant finished its season with a 12-7 record.
