The Nashua congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will host a public forum on religious liberty June 14, Flag Day, as part of America250 commemorations.
The free event will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the church, 110 Concord St., Nashua, and will feature speakers from Harvard Law School and Brigham Young University.
Joshua McDaniel, assistant clinical professor of law and faculty director of the Religious Freedom Clinic at Harvard Law School, will discuss the meaning of religious freedom and contemporary legal issues involving the First Amendment. Hannah Smith, associate director of Brigham Young Universityโs International Center for Law and Religion Studies, will speak about ways individuals can promote religious freedom in everyday life.
Organizers said the forum will explore the role of religious liberty in American history and its continuing importance for people of all faiths and those with no religious affiliation.
The Religious Freedom Clinic at Harvard Law School has represented clients from a variety of religious backgrounds, including Sikh, Muslim, Amish and Jewish communities, as well as Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, Native Americans and members of smaller faith groups.
The event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.
