Local college athletes showed their prowess on the fields, tracks and diamonds this spring, as many from our area towns had excellent seasons at their respective schools.
Emma Schaumloffel of New Ipswich is a sophomore at Wentworth Institute of Technology, where she is a runner for the Leopards track and field team. Schaumloffel set a school record in the 5000m run on April 24, running it in 19:16.17. Most recently, she placed 12th in the 10k race at MIT’s Battle Roads Twilight Meet in a time of 41:34.30.
Aida Davis of Peterborough is a sophomore at Emmanuel College, where she runs sprints for the Saints track and field team. Emmanuel won the GNAC Championship this spring, where Davis ran a leg of the winning 4x800m and 4x400m relay teams and won the 1,500m run.
William Simard of Francestown is a freshman at UMass-Lowell, where he is a distance runner for the River Hawks track and field team. Simard took fourth in the 1,500m at the America East Outdoor Track & Field Championship on May 9 in a time of 3:49.41.
Gage Blanchette of Jaffrey is a freshman at Keene State College, where he is a thrower for the Owls track and field team. Blanchette set a personal record in discus in his final meet of the season, throwing it 34.86m.
Kaden Colby of Jaffrey is a sophomore at Keene State College, where he is a sprinter for the Owls track and field team. Colby finished 13th in both hurdle events at the Little East Championships.
Ethan Vitello of Jaffrey is a sophomore at Keene State College, where he is a sprinter/jumper for the Owls track and field team. Vitello was part of a 4x100m relay team that was just hundreths of a second off of the school record this spring.
Maxx Telofski of Peterborough is a freshman at Plymouth State College, where he is a thrower for the Panthers track and field team. Telofski set a personal best in hammer throw at Middlebury this spring with a toss of 36.80m.
Margaret Winiecki of Jaffrey is a freshman at Holy Cross, where she plays for the Crusaders women’s tennis team. Winiecki played at No. 3 and on the No. 1 doubles team; the Crusaders lost in the quarterfinals against Boston University.
Tessa Spingola of Rindge was a senior at Springfield College, where she plays catcher for the Pride softball team. The Pride went 27-14 this spring and were eliminated in the NEWMAC tournament.
Morgan Bemont of Peterborough is a junior at American International College, where she is a utility player for the Yellow Jackets softball team. Bemont hit .276 with 17 RBI and 15 runs scored and a .919 fielding percentage as American went 14-34.
Avery Moore of Dublin is a freshman at the University of Southern Maine, where she plays outfield and catcher for the Huskies softball team. Moore suffered an injury in April, but up until that point, she was hitting .514 with four RBI and nine runs scored.
Lily Mandel of Peterborough is a junior at Keene State College, where she plays first base for the Owls softball team. The Owls went 16-21 on the year.
Leah St. John of New Ipswich is a junior at Lesley University, where she plays catcher and infield for the Lynx softball team. St. John led the Lynx in almost every offensive category: games played (29), hits (27), doubles (9), home runs (3), batting average (.415), on-base percentage (.487), and slugging (.692) and was ranked sixth in the conference for batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. She has already been named a captain for next season.
Troy Brennan of Wilton is a senior at Keene State College, where he is a relief pitcher for the Owls baseball team. Brennan went 4-3 in 17 appearances with a 5.63 ERA and 29 strikeouts as KSC went 26-17 but lost in the Little East finals.
Lane LeClair of Marlborough is a redshirt freshman at Franklin Pierce University, where he is a pitcher for the Ravens baseball team. Leclair was 2-2 in 14 appearances with 51 strikeouts as FPU went 12-31.
Rosie Crooker of Francestown is a senior at Union College, where she plays defense on the Garnet Chargers women’s lacrosse team. Crooker appeared in seven games, starting two, as the Garnet Chargers lost in the second round of the NCAA Division III championship.
