A minor suffered serious injuries in an ATV crash on the Hillsborough Recreation Trail in Deering on Sunday, May 31, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game.

Emergency responders were dispatched at about 3:09 p.m. after receiving a report of a crash involving an ATV. Deering Fire Department, Hillsborough and Antrim police departments, and a New Hampshire Fish and Game conservation officer responded to the scene.

Authorities identified the ATV passenger as Stephen Barlow, 59, of Harrisville. Barlow and the minor were riding together when, for reasons that remain under investigation, the ATV accelerated, the driver lost control and the vehicle struck a tree.

Barlow was not injured. The minor was transported to Concord Hospital for evaluation and treatment of serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation, but officials said inexperience appears to have been a contributing factor. Fish and Game officials reminded riders to wear helmets and operate vehicles within their skill level.
