Peterborough elections are coming May 12
Like most people, you may not be familiar with the Zoning Board of Adjustment’s mission, but understanding it is vital to our town.
Per our town website, the ZBA is required by state statute to grant relief from strict zoning terms by deciding on: (1) administrative appeals; (2) variances; (3) special exceptions; and (4) equitable waivers.
What does this mean? Consider a landowner with 475 feet of frontage wanting to subdivide into two lots. If the town requires 500 feet total, they are 25 feet short and must apply to the ZBA for a “dimensional waiver.”
As a Peterborough resident, you are invited to attend public ZBA meetings to share your views. Over the past year, the board has considered applications for a dog boarding facility, a six-unit housing development, a car-storage barn and a residential rehabilitation facility.
Decisions are based on five state-mandated criteria, applicant information, and—most importantly—resident feedback. Please know that public input is taken very seriously by the ZBA.
As a member of the Master Plan Steering Committee and the Planning Board, I am well-versed in zoning processes. As a real estate professional, I understand land use and building procedures. I believe the ZBA’s role is to balance landowner rights with the health, safety, and ordinances of our town.
I am running for an open seat on the ZBA. If elected, I commit to respecting your input, applying the guiding criteria fairly, and treating all residents with kindness.
I ask for your vote on Tuesday, May 12, at the Town House, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
