A 42-year-old Rindge man was injured Sunday afternoon while hiking Gap Mountain in Troy, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game officials.

Brett Gonzales was descending from the Gap Mountain North Summit around 3:45 p.m. when he slipped on wet rocks and suffered a serious but non-life-threatening leg injury, authorities said.

Gonzalesโ€™ hiking partner called 911 after determining he could not continue on his own. GPS coordinates placed the pair just south of the summit.

Responders from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, Troy Fire and Rescue, Troy Ambulance, Troy Police Department and Fitzwilliam Fire Department hiked in from Upper Gap Mountain Road to reach Gonzales.

Emergency personnel splinted his leg, allowing him to walk with assistance about a half-mile to a utility terrain vehicle. He was transported to the trailhead shortly before 6 p.m.

Gonzales declined ambulance transport and was taken to a hospital by his hiking partner.

Officials said both hikers were experienced and well prepared.
