The Historical Society of Cheshire County will open โ€œBeyond the Battlefield: Cheshire County in the Revolutionary Periodโ€ on Wednesday, April 15, at its Putnam exhibit gallery, 246 Main St. in Keene.

The exhibit marks the 250th anniversary of American independence and examines Revolutionary-era life in the Monadnock region through the 1776 Association Test, which required residents to declare loyalty to the Patriot cause.

A reception is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. April 15. The exhibit will remain free and open during regular business hours through July.

Featured figures include Col. Enoch Hale of Rindge, Tobias Cutler, Abigail Hale and Samuel King of Chesterfield. An interactive component asks visitors whether they would have signed the Association Test.

The exhibit is underwritten by Fenton Family Dealerships and the Putnam Foundation, with additional support from Mascoma Bank, C&S Wholesale Grocers, Ingram Construction, Harrisville Designs and Douglas Toys.
