Nancy Haggarty

Spartanburg, SC – Nancy Haggarty (nรฉe McLean), 79, passed away on February 14, 2026, in Spartanburg, SC, after a brief illness.

Nancy was born in Boston, MA, to Charles McLean and Isabel Butterfield and grew up and attended school in Antrim, NH. She graduated from Simmons College, and traveled widely, meeting her future husband Billy Haggarty in New Zealand. They lived in VT, HI, and NY, before eventually settling in Scotland with their two children. After returning to the United States with her children, she worked as a graphic designer for Keene State College, earning an additional degree, and after retirement fulfilled a lifelong ambition to serve as a teaching volunteer in the Peace Corps in Ghana and Benin.

Nancy spent her retirement in Bradenton, FL, and later Spartanburg, SC, immersed in creative interests such as quilting, photography, printmaking, and basket weaving. She continued to travel, including trips to Mexico and Cuba, as well as frequent trips back to Scotland to spend time with her grandchildren. In between visits, she enjoyed video calls and laughter with family.

She is survived by two children, Jennifer Haggarty and husband Justin Thomas, and Andrew Haggarty and wife Julie Loveless; grandchildren Bluebell and Hector; sister Jane McLean and husband John, brothers Chuck McLean, and Bill Nichols and wife Sheila, and uncle Charles Butterfield.

The family is planning for a private service for family and friends.
