The Peterborough Womanโ€™s Club and the Monadnock Center for History and Culture will present โ€œFounding Mothers: Womenโ€™s Lives in 1776โ€ on Wednesday, March 25, at the Monadnock Center, 19 Grove St., Peterborough.

The free program, with a suggested $10 donation, runs from 6 to 8 p.m. Donations support Peterborough Womanโ€™s Club scholarships. Doors open at 6 p.m. for 1776-era refreshments and exhibit viewing, and the program begins at 6:30 p.m. A snow date is set for April 1.

Monadnock Center Director Michelle Stahl will lead the program, which examines womenโ€™s lives in the Monadnock region during the Revolutionary era.

Two exhibits tied to the nationโ€™s 250th anniversary will be on view: โ€œRelics and Antiquities,โ€ featuring 18th-century artifacts including a red wool cloak made by Mary Wilson of Wilson Tavern, and โ€œLetโ€™s Celebrate,โ€ on milestone anniversary celebrations from 1826 to 1976.

Reservations are recommended but not required.

Peterborough Woman’s Club members, Pam Coffey, left, and Jackie Kremer, inspect the red cloak that belonged to Mary Wilson, who owned the Wilson Tavern. The tavern was located near the current Rosalie’s Garden. COURTESY.
