The Folksoul Band and the Celebration Brass Band will present a Mardi Gras concert Feb. 14 at Nova Arts in Keene, celebrating American roots music and New Orleans brass band traditions.
Doors open at 7 p.m., with music at 7:30 p.m. The show is all ages, with first-come, first-served seating.
The Folksoul Band draws on early American, Afro-Creole and New Orleans musical traditions, blending street parade and second-line influences with original interpretations. The group includes Richard Doherty, Tara Greenblatt, Fred Simmons, Ramsey Thomas, Leslie Vogel and Walden Whitham.
Joining them is the Celebration Brass Band, a Southern Vermont ensemble founded in 2009 under the leadership of New Orleans native Peter Simoneaux. The band specializes in traditional and contemporary New Orleans brass band music and regularly performs at community events throughout the region.
