When the weather is cold and the ice is thick, the Jaffrey Ice Racing Association takes to the frozen-over waters of Contoocook Lake in Jaffrey for weekly races. On Sunday, the Association was able to hold its first official event of the year, after a trial day on Feb. 1. The next Ice Racing Association event is scheduled for this Sunday, Feb. 15, at the Jaffrey beach.
