The Temple Band, known as โAmericaโs First Town Band,โ will resume weekly rehearsals on Monday, Jan. 12, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Temple Town Hall.
Founded in 1799, the all-volunteer, nonprofit community band is directed by Gordon Estabrook and performs a wide range of music, including marches, swing, show tunes, Dixieland, jazz, novelty pieces, classical selections and original compositions. Band members perform in colonial-style attire featuring tri-corner hats, knickers and red, white and blue sashes.
The Temple Band welcomes new members from throughout the Monadnock and Souhegan Valley regions. Musicians range in age from 10 to 90. There are no dues, fees or auditions, though at least two years of experience on a concert band instrument is requested, along with a commitment to attend at least half of rehearsals and performances. All concert band instruments are welcome.
The band is also seeking sponsors for summer concerts planned in conjunction with the nationโs 250th anniversary.
