Monadnock Peer Support has received a $4,000 grant from Volunteer NH and an $8,000 end-of-year gift from Badger to expand volunteer capacity and launch a pilot youth peer support program in the Monadnock region.
The Volunteer NH grant will fund an external consultant to help the Keene-based, peer-run mental health organization develop a structured volunteer program, including systems for recruitment, training, support and retention. The goal is to strengthen organizational capacity and expand access to peer support services.
โVolunteers have incredible potential to extend the reach of our peer support model,โ said Karen Richi, administrative director at Monadnock Peer Support. โThis grant allows us to thoughtfully build a volunteer program that not only supports our mission, but also ensures volunteers feel prepared, valued, and connected to the people and community we serve.โ
Volunteer NH awards grants to eligible organizations to increase volunteer recruitment and management capacity, with funding provided through American Rescue Plan funds administered by the state of New Hampshire.
In addition, Monadnock Peer Support received an $8,000 donation from Badger to support the launch of a pilot youth peer support program. The funding will allow the nonprofit to expand its peer-led, non-clinical mental health model to young people, an area not currently covered by existing funding sources. Monadnock Peer Support has provided peer support services to adults for more than 30 years.
โYouth in our community are facing increasing mental health challenges, and many are looking for safe spaces where they can connect with others who truly understand,โ said Stacy Wilbur, program director at Monadnock Peer Support.
The pilot program will focus on creating non-clinical, peer-driven spaces where youth can share experiences, learn coping skills and support one another.
Badger, based in Gilsum, donates 10% of before-tax profits each year to nonprofit organizations focused on childrenโs health and welfare, local communities, and the promotion of peace and well-being.
