The Monadnock Area Transitional Shelter will host a National Homeless Personsโ Memorial Day vigil on Sunday, Dec. 21, from 4 to 4:30 p.m. on the Town House steps in Peterborough. The memorial is open to the public.
During the vigil, organizers will read the names of individuals in New Hampshire who died in 2025 while experiencing homelessness. For many, this will be the only public remembrance of their lives.
Homeless Personsโ Memorial Day is a grassroots observance that brings together people with lived experience of homelessness, service providers, advocates, and policymakers. The event provides an opportunity for reflection on the impact of housing instability and serves as a call to action to support increased access to housing and healthcare.
Community members who know of individuals who died while experiencing homelessness are invited to submit names by emailing MATS at info@matsnh.org. Names received will be included in the reading during the vigil.
