The Park Theatre will continue its Filmmaker Series with a screening of the new documentary Age Group Winner on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. at 19 Main St. Director Alexandra Helgerson will attend to introduce the film and hold a Q&A afterward.
Filmed over a decade, Age Group Winner follows Helgerson’s father, Jay Helgerson, a marathon runner who in 1980 became the first person to run a sub-three-hour marathon every week for a year. The film captures his drive, struggles with aging, and relationship with his daughter, who nearly halted production after being diagnosed with sarcoma.
Helgerson, a filmmaker, actor, and musician, makes her directorial debut with the project, which coincides with a 52-theater tour honoring her father’s 52-marathon record.
