Mascenic Regional High School has secured its third straight team golf state championship โ€” and two of its players took the top spots in the individual competition.

The Vikings traveled to Newport on Friday for the NHIAA Division IV State Championship, where the team of Brody Shaw, Rowen Vautour, Colin Koukkari, Parker Ketola, Shelton Krook and Braeden Michaud captured first place with a team score of 333, winning by seven strokes over White Mountain.

Coach Jeff Hakkala said the team played well in windy conditions and an aerated green. He said it was a comeback match for the team, who was down in the ranking until the last six holes, but battled back to snatch the victory from White Mountain.

Hakkala said earning a third consecutive championship demonstrates the programโ€™s strength and consistency and shows the depth of players he’d had over the last four years.

This weekend, fresh off a team win, Colin Koukkari took first place in the NHIAA 2025 Individual Golf Championship, with teammate Brody Shaw finishing second. Also participating in the championship was Rowan Vautour, who placed 12th.

Coach Jeff Hakkala said he was pleased with his players’ showing. This was Koukkari’s second time in the individual championship, and his first time placing in the top five. SShaw, competing for the third time, had previously placed second and fourth.

Hakkala said by the time Koukkari and Shaw had played about a dozen holes, they had separated from the pack, and it became a battle for the top place.

“It came down to the last hole,” said Hakkala. “As a coach, it’s tough, because you want to see both succeed. It’s tough for Brody, but on that day, Colin just played better.”
