We’re still not outraged enough
About 300 members of the Texas National Guard arrived in Chicago after being“federalized” by President Donald Trump. On Sept. 25, Trump also sent about 300 Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to the city to “get dangerous criminals off the streets.” About 600 uniformed, armed and mostly masked law enforcement people are strolling around Chicago with guns and not much to do.
As of Oct. 11:
ICE agents ripped a 15-year-old girl from a car as it pulled into a driveway. She screamed out her age and demanded to be taken to her parents. One agent pulled her to the ground, kneeled on her back, handcuffed her, and led her away. At least four unmarked cars stood by.
A minimum of 10 masked agents (from unidentified agencies) smashed the car windows of a couple waiting in line to pick up their daughter from school. The parents were dragged out of the car, thrown to the ground, handcuffed and hauled away.
A reporter from WGN-TV I Chicago was tackled to the ground and handcuffed by masked Border Control agents who later claimed she had thrown something at their car. She was released without being charged.
On Sept. 19, the Reverend David Black was shot with pepper ball/chemical projectiles in the head and body as he prayed outside the ICE facility in Broadview, Ill.
ICE detained a Chicago alderman—an elected official—at a hospital as she questioned whether they had a warrant to detain a hospitalized person, and if they had one for her. They refused to answer and took her away in handcuffs.
ICE agents swarmed a homeless shelter in Chicago and chased residents who were sitting outside the building. Five residents were taken and cannot be found.
