The Friends of the Jaffrey Public Library and the Jaffrey Historical Society are partnering to bring historian George Morrison to the library for his presentation, โVanished Veterans: An Illustrated Introduction to New Hampshireโs Civil War Monuments and Memorials,โ on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 11 a.m.
Following the presentation, Morrison will lead an outdoor session at Jaffreyโs own Soldiers Monument and Buddies Memorial, offering additional insights and discussion specific to the local monuments.
Morrison has located, inventoried and photographed New Hampshireโs wide variety of Civil War memorials, and visited Jaffrey this summer to research the Soldiers Monument in front of the library. His presentation will explore his discoveries โ from the earliest obelisks and statuary to artillery, murals, cast iron, stained glass and buildings constructed from the 1860s through the 1920s โ before heading outdoors for the local tour.
A longtime researcher of unpublished primary sources, Morrison has contributed to the work of aviation historians and artists in several countries. A lifelong photographer, historian and motorcyclist, he has traveled more than 18,000 miles researching monuments and memorials, an interest sparked by a puzzling 1918 monument inscription.
