According to organizer Cyrena Arnold, the Francestown 5K is run in memory of Tom Peters, an avid marathon runner who passed away in 2023. Peters completed 33 consecutive Boston Marathons and ran the Francestown 5K many times.

“Tom was known all around Francestown and would wave to every passing car while out on his runs and walks. He called our little 5K ‘one of the best organized and well run 5Kโ€™s I have had the good fortune to run in’ and said, ‘this event an integral part of our Labor Day planning and events every year,'” Arnold said.
