The 19th annual Monadnock Trails Week will take place Sept. 4 through Sept. 8, giving volunteers the chance to help maintain trails on Mount Monadnock and Gap Mountain.
The event is organized by the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests and New Hampshire State Parks.
Participants will join experienced crew leaders on projects ranging from basic maintenance to building rock and wood trail structures. No experience is required; training, tools and safety gear are provided. Days run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Volunteers may register for one or more days. Youth ages 13 to15 must attend with an adult, and 16- and 17-year-olds require parental permission.
Last year, more than 45 volunteers, Forest Society staff and NH State Parks personnel logged almost 1,000 hours over the course of the week. Organizers hope to again host affinity crews, such as womenโs and LGBTQIA+ groups, to ensure an inclusive experience.
โThis annual event is a wonderful way to give back to the mountain so many enjoy,โ said Forest Society President Jack Savage.
Registration is open through Aug. 26 at forestsociety.mtw. For more information, email Laurel Swope-Brush at lswopebrush@forestsociety.org.
