The Hope for Gus Foundation will host โ€œMoving Mountains for Duchenne,โ€ a family-friendly fundraising hike, on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 10 a.m. at the Crotched Mountain Accessible Trails, 1 Verney Dr.

The nearly four-mile wheelchair-accessible trail winds through wetlands and mountain views. People of all ages and abilities are invited to walk, roll or cheer on participants. The event includes food and music to celebrate community support. Proceeds benefit Duchenne muscular dystrophy research and family support.

The Hope for Gus Foundation was founded in Peterborough by the Dreher family after their son Gus was diagnosed with Duchenne at age 4. For more than 16 years, the foundation has funded research and supported families living with the disease, which primarily affects boys.

โ€œThis hike embodies what our foundation is all about โ€” inclusion, perseverance and the power of community,โ€ said Tonya Dreher, foundation director.

Since 2015, the foundation has organized โ€œEverest to End Duchenne,โ€ taking teams to Nepal to raise awareness and funds. The Greenfield hike was created in response to requests for a local event.
